Harold curious? Wanting to finally form your own Harold team? Ready to launch your improv skills to the next level? Then this class is for you! In this in depth look of the beloved Chicago long form you will be equipped with key tools for Harold success that will level up your improv in any scene, not just Harolds. 

Why Harold:

The Harold has the potential for making magic on stage, and it is not for the faint of heart. This improv will require quick thinking, deep listening, organic game discovery, and the will to find connections and bring it all together. It is ripe for big characters, unexpected themes and laughs, and finding meaning in the mundane. It can feel like a rollercoaster, and when it's done well it is truly poetic. 

What to expect in this 5 week course:

1. "It is… expanding an idea"  

The Invocation. Finding the poetry within every suggestion to create strong building blocks for the entire form. 

2. "Make it real, and find the odd thing" 

Intro to discovering “game” in your scenes + ways to track and speak the language of UCB style game, to aid you and your scenemates. Quick decisions to deep first beat relationships and base reality. 

3. “1 Group, 1 Mind”

How to create satisfying group games that are actually fun to play and watch. Mirroring, organic play, and just a taste of short-form seasoning for that extra pop of flavor. 

 4. "Double down, explore and heighten”

Creating dynamic and deep second beat pulls. Making thematic, world, and character choices that heighten well without running off the rails. 

5. "Justifying satisfying conclusions” 

The universes collide, and it’s always been like this: How to bring connections together to find theme as your Harlold finds its crescendo. 

This is an advanced class, come prepared to work on your craft. Notes + coaching will come with care and the offer for you to expand your skill. Take what sticks, leave what doesn't. No matter what: we got your back.

Required completion of 301, one year of improv training, relevant experience, or application. Be ready to work fast + walk away falling in love with the Harold!
