My Dinner with Monoscene
Classic story of a guy stuck in a room with a legendary art form and they really see each other!
Are you Monoscene curious? Deeply invested? Want to learn with others who also finally wanna see that Monoscene team come together? Come and learn it with the man that thinks every big character needs to slow down and share a meal with a friend.
Why Monoscene:
The Monoscene is a UCB New York born format that asks the players to create characters that can truly exist in one space without the safety net of editing the scene to escape. It relies on deep history, fully formed relationships and world building, and then, (like a Harold!) the characters must expand and be explored to justify the entire existence of everything. It requires tight choices, big patience, and the ability to slow down in group scenes and games throughout the entire show.
In this three hour workshop:
1. “And everything went haywire”– Quick starts by choosing strong connection.
2. “I would never give up my electric blanket” – Drop the plot, but hold on to your character’s want.
3. “OK. Yes, we are bored” – Letting go of subtext and saying what you really feel to explore and heighten.
4. “The cookie is in no position to know about that” – The power of rumors, but not secrets. We all know, and we all play.
5. “It was something like a human Kaleidoscope” – Finding meaningful beats between characters that make the tapestry.
This class will move fast, require adept ability to receive feedback, and openness to fail. Required completion of 301, one year of improv training, relevant experience, or application.
Be ready to work fast + walk away falling in love....with the Monoscene!
