Inventing characters on the spot that are “believable” is one thing – but eye-catching, and laugh-inducing characters can be hard to pin down.
In this 4 week class we will work on tools to improvise memorable characters through:
Voice, emotion & posture
Character station & social power
Mirroring & heightening
Quirks & exaggeration
We’ll find ways to ground scenes with a character’s emotion or elevate the game of a scene by heightening a character’s quirk– and most importantly we’ll focus on letting yourself breathe onstage as a bold character, so the improvising can flourish.
Class address is emailed in advance of class, please contact: kat@provocationtheatre.com if you need directions.
Our classes are held in an indoor facility in the heart of Central Berkeley, near the intersection of San Pablo Way + University Ave.
The building policy is shoes-off, so we recommend wearing socks.
